.. THE NEXT BIG SINGER ... Carmireli By Troy L. Smith (January, 2009 Insider Magazine) Local pop singer Carmireli says that in high school, she was "the girl people would push aside or shove into a locker."
"I was a big dork," says the 20-year-old, talking about her days at East High School.
It's hard to imagine Carmireli's classmates thinking of her that way now. She's gone from dork to young diva, blossoming into a beautiful, promising pop singer with an exceptional ability to hit the high note.
"I've definitely gone through a transformation," she says. "I feel more mature now and I'm definitely more confident."
A year and a half ago, the singer, who goes just by Carmireli, could be seen at events like the Lilac Festival, performing songs from her self-released CD. Back then, Carmireli's catchy pop tunes showed traces of the innocent young girl who grew up idolizing the Spice Girls in her native of Puerto Rico.
Carmireli moved to Rochester with her family when she was 12. Since then, a career in music has been her primary focus. However, when she was 15, she almost gave it up, thanks to some harsh advice from her vocal coach.
"He told me that I was one of a thousand and to get my head out of the clouds and do something else," Carmireli says.

Fink and his partner, Tony Gross, signed Carmireli to their management company on her 18th birthday, and the young singer's career has been evolving ever since. Her music now has much more of an edgy rock influence, ala Kelly Clarkson or Avril Lavigne. And Junior Sanchez, the producer who is helping craft Carmireli's first single, has produced songs for artists like Katy Perry and Good Charlotte. Sanchez currently is working with Carmireli on the songs for her debut full-length album, which will be released on independent Los Angeles label EVK Records.
Still, despite recent progress, Carmireli remains loyal to the people who've been there from the beginning. She continues to interact with her fans, who have dubbed themselves the "Carmilitia", through MySpace. They've offered everything from jewelry to marriage proposals. One fan even went as far as to have the singer's logo tattooed on his leg, which he showed off on his MySpace page.
"It's insane," Carmireli says. "I was like 'Oh, my gosh!' It's weird, but in the same way flattering."

"Carmireli's natural tone and unexpected power made a very strong first impression and I knew immediately that she had something special to offer! It turned out that she also has a great intuition and reacts really well to what she likes and dislikes. The people that knew her in high school can't believe the transformation! 2009 is going to bring a new level of attention to Carmireli." | |
