Corey Haim, who rose to stardom in the 1980s after appearing in such films as "Lucas," "The Lost Boys," and "License to Drive," died of an apparent overdose of prescription medications Wednesday morning in Los Angeles. He was 38.

Alongside his frequent co-star, Corey Feldman, Haim grew to prominence in the 1980s as a teen idol and left behind an array of memorable on-screen moments.

The Canadian-born actor first garnered attention playing Sally Field's son in "Murphy's Romance" and opposite Gary Busey in Stephen King's "Silver Bullet." But it was the title role in 1986's "Lucas" that set him on a path to more widespread fame.

Haim's next film turned out to be an important moment in the young star's career. The vampire-themed "The Lost Boys" became Haim's highest-grossing film and would pair him with Corey Feldman for the first time. The duo, known forever after as "The Two Coreys," starred in eight films together; the most recent being 2008's "Lost Boys: The Tribe" in which Haim had a small cameo.

Feldman and Haim achieved moderate success with films such as "License to Drive" and "Dream a Little Dream," but their last few collaborations would wind up going directly to home video. Cameos aside, their last film together was a little-seen 1996 comedy called "Busted."

The two would gain attention again on the A&E network's part-reality, mostly scripted television show, "The Two Coreys." Feldman, who has remained sober for years, would often chastise Haim for his substance abuse and erratic behavior. On an episode featuring Haim's cameo in "Lost Boys: The Tribe," Haim isn't able to remember his lines and is displays noticeably bizarre behavior. "The Two Coreys" ran for two seasons; the final episode aired August 17, 2008.

Haim had battled substance abuse problems for many years and, according to ABC and TMZ, had been in and out of rehab 15 times. His abuse problems were well known at an early age. When details first surfaced of his addictions in the late 1980s, Haim went as far to release a promotional video called "Corey Haim: Me, Myself, and I" to dispel the rumors.
